HIGHLIGHTS OF 4th BIRD FESTIVAL

The fourth edition of bird festival was organized by Goa forest department from 5th to 7th February 2021 at Mollem, Goa.

Pre bird festival activities were planned before the onset of the main event to publicize about the festival and to ensure increased participation from various sections of the society. The activities include state level assessment of Wetland bird count covering both districts of Goa, Avian diversity assessment at Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary in collaboration with Goa Bird Conservation Network. The pre bird festival activities also included webinars, painting, sketching, quiz and photography competitions. Vehicle rally was also organized from QUEPEM to MOLLEM via Margao, Ponda, and Dharbandora in order to create larger awareness about the festival among masses.

The festival was inaugurated at the hands of Honble Chief Minister of Goa, Shri Pramod Sawant in the presence of Hon’ble Minister for PWD, Shri Deepak Paushkar. Honble chief Minister of Goa released a report on “Avian Biodiversity Assessment of Bondla” on the occasion, awarded certificates to the prize winners of pre festival competitions and to the trained Nature guides.

The festival featured guided bird walks in wildlife areas, talks by prominent Ornithologists and Nature enthusiasts, Cultural programmes in the evening by local cultural groups. Guided birding trails with signages were created at  Bondla wildlife sanctuary, Bhagwan Mahavir national park, Satpal Arboretum and Biodiversity park, Mollem.

The festival was conducted professionally in a befitting manner adhering to the COVID-19 guidelines and despite the pandemic there was overwhelming participation of delegates, students, and volunteers from all across the country.
