HIGHLIGHTS OF 3rd BIRD FESTIVAL
The third edition of bird festival was organized by Goa forest department in partnership with Goa tourism department from 17th to 19th January 2020 ‘At forest trainee school Valpoi Goa.
The event featured prominent Ornithologist from around the globe, workshops by professional photographers, artwork by renewed artists and guided bird walks. Early morning was utilized for bird watching in the Valpoi reserve forests, Bhagwan Mahavir WLS & Bondla WLS, followed by talks/workshops during the day. Talks were held in parallel sessions with interactive sessions to allow for open discussions of different subjects. There was a photo exhibition featuring some of the best works of different photographers, and a live birding related demonstration as well as live demonstrations on the art of drawing and painting birds.
The festival was inaugurated at the hands of Honble Chief Minister of Goa, Shri Pramod Sawant. There was release of special postal cover by Honble chief Minister on the occasion.
The event started with field trip to Valpoi first reserve an early morning of 17th January 2020 and daily morning hours were dedicated for bird watching in pristine forests of Goa including Valpoi forest reserve, Bhagwan Mahaveer, Wild Life Sanctuary. Mhadei Wild Life Sanctuary, Bondla Wild Life Sanctuary. Afternoons were reserved for talks and workshop. Talks were held in parallel with interactive sessions to allow open discussions on different subjects. Experts who conducted workshops included Shri Bikram Grewal- Bird Man of India, Shri Vivek Menan, Shri Anand Arya, Shri Hemant Kamadi IFS, Shri Sumedh Waghmare, Shri Gobind Sagar Bharadwaj IFS, Shri Ramki Sreenavasan, Shri. M. Shrinivasa Reddy IFS, Dr Samad Kottur, Shri Parag Rangnekar, Dr. Suresh Kumar, & Shri Omkar Dharwadkar, there was a photo exhibition featuring some of the best works of photographers, live birding related demonstration as well as live demonstration on art drawing and painting birds.
This festival overall proposed to care to varied interest level and was conceptualized with a view to bring together professionals from academy, field experts and industry and groom their skills as nature lovers.
