Rajah Jayapal

Senior Principal Scientist at Sálim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON)

Rajah Jayapal is currently a Senior Principal Scientist at Sálim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON) located at Anaikatty near Coimbatore. He has been involved with ornithological research in India over 20 years particularly on birds of the Himalayas and Central Indian tropical forests. His main research interests include avian taxonomy, biogeography, and macroecology.

He is currently conducting an All-India Survey of Synanthropic Birds of India including House Sparrow and House Crow. He is also involved with developing conservation plans for select IBAs in Uttarakhand and Sikkim.

Jayapal is one of the lead authors of the “India Birds Checklist” series which also includes annual taxonomic updates to Indian birds. He has published several research papers and has delivered numerous talks on birds of India. He is also on the editorial board of a few ornithological journals.
